"Christian counselor" is a broad term that refers to licensed, and non-licensed individuals. Some are not licensed to practice therapy, but have biblical counseling degrees or certifications. You can often find these types of counselors at churches or ministry centers, and they don’t bill your insurance. 

Other Christian counselors (like me) have licenses that allow them to practice psychotherapy and bill insurance for it. When you work with a counselor like this, you receive evidence-based interventions (like cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, or EMDR) from a counselor who also has a Biblical/Christian worldview.

No, you do not have to be a Christian to see me! I have clients from many different backgrounds and of many different faiths.

I wish it didn’t exist, but spiritual trauma is alive and well.
